PRR East Slope Pusher, 1940
Here is a photo by H.W. Pontin via Rail Photo Service that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1940. Prominent here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapod" steam locomotive serving as a tail-end pusher for a mixed-cargo freight train that's rounding the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. At Gallitzin, the "Decapod" will be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." John S. Fisher Collection; #6 of 14.
