ELDO Action. Here is the fifth of eight original photos that I took in the Eldorado section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in January of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9819 and #9537. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9819 is an EF-15A built in May of 1951 and retired in November of 1966, while #9537 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and retired in May of 1966. Their crew is waiting for orders to move their mixed-cargo freight train from Altoona through Eldorado to the Wye Switches in Duncansville, and thence up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. |
