EL 833 With Train #6, The Lake Cities Editors Pick! Contributor's Pick!
Note the Monoo and Erie heralds on the station sign. Eric Reinert commented to me that "This was the 'new' station on the south side of downtown Hammond."

Zach Pumphery General Love the steam escaping from the 833. Great scan. 1/19/2008 1:00:04 AM
MISSY G General EL 4 eva!! 1/21/2008 4:47:31 PM
Joe Usselman General It's kind of funny that the foundation of the station is still up as well as some of the tracks. 2/2/2008 8:02:58 PM
Marty Bernard General Thanks for the comments. Why was there so much space between the train and the station. Obviously for 3 or 4 more tracks, but why. This is Hammond! Nothing originated there, right? 2/2/2008 9:00:46 PM
Jim Gavin General Very nice shot. The last engineer to run the 833 in revenue service retired in 2007. 2/24/2008 4:56:27 PM
Ryan Kertis General Marty, The tracks closest to the depot were owned by the Monon, I believe there were two tracks at one time. Perhaps it's just that the Monon didn't want Erie's platform track on their property. The Monon main is the only remaining track left in this scene and there are apartments today where the 833 is standing. 10/23/2008 2:23:03 PM
Kevin Heggi General The gap is because the monon and erie built this joint station 10-27-53. the original stations were further north where the tracks were closer. This location was the Monon's choosing and the building was the same as Lowell and Monon with changes only to the roof. The orginal stations were at Fayette street. 12/26/2009 3:39:30 PM
Chris Lubinski General Nice photo. A small union station! 9/18/2014 5:23:35 PM
