A CN local serving industries along what was once the main right of way thru the Fox Cities for the CNW. Ther crew is crossing Commercial Street in Neenah. The CNW's yard was right in this area with at least three tracks crossing Comercial Street. Currently only two tracks cross the road with only a few businesses receiving rail service to the 4928's rear. The middle section of the CNW route thru Neenah has been torn out, but businesses are still served on each side of town with access from the former Soo Line right of way. The yard that was here which the CNW worked out of to serve Neenah and Menasha has been stripped of about half of its tracks and now only serves to organize the local's cars for switching the industries reached from this point. |

This bridge crosses over a canal above the dam of the Fox River. Out of pcture to the right is the railroad bridge over the Fox River below the Dam that must be crossed to reach this point. The track ends about 200 feet behind the locomotive, though in the CNW days, it went on to Fond du Lac and the rest of the CNW system. |

CN local crosses Millview Dr. with 13 cars as it approaches the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 1 Mar. '15. I don't know where the train had been working, but it was coming from the direction of Hilbert when I encountered it in Menasha a few minutes earlier. They are passing the partially demolished Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant). Opened in Jan. '98, it has stood idle since 15 Jun. '13. The boxcar is passing under the remnants of the steam pipes that used to connect the energy plant to the Glatfelter Paper mill (formerly Bergstrom Paper, originally Winnebago Paper). The paper mill itself fell to the wrecking ball a few years ago, after occupying the site of this parking lot and several newer businesses out of frame to the right, for well over 125 years (the oldest part of the original mill was constructed in 1874). |

After crossing the Fox River channel in Neenah, the CN follows former joint Milwaukee Road / Soo Line rail across Doty Island. The right of way run parallel River Street for a short distance as it crosses West North Water Street and Forest Avenue. At the lead end of the engine, one can spot the former Milwaukee and Northern (Milwaukee Road) Neenah depot on Forest Avenue. The train will cross the Fox River in Menasha once again as it leaves Doty Island. There used to be a few businesses to switch along this part of the line on Doty Island, but they all stopped using rail or closed. |

CN local crosses Edna Ave. and passes Anchor Castings, Inc., 223 Edna Ave., Neenah, WI, as it heads southwest via the formerly joint MILW/SOO rails on 12 Jun. '16. Neenah Brass Works was organized on 1 Jul. 1905 to make screen plates, brass and bronze castings. They moved to this site ca. ’08. At some point the name changed to Neenah Brass & Aluminum, Inc. BLC Enterprises, Inc., purchased the facility in Feb. ’94 and operated it as Neenah Brass & Aluminum Foundry. A new owner purchased the facility in ‘06. At some point the name was changed to Anchor Castings. The 1893 C&NW Neenah-Menasha depot is visible in the background at the east end of Edna Ave. |
