Description:  The Hampton & Branchville has a roving flagman who drives ahead of the train in the white pickup and flags all of the railroads crossings (only one crossing on the entire line is signaled). At the SCE&G power plant at Canadys the flagman acts as an extra ground crew member for switching work.

Description:  Monday morning on the Hampton & Branchville. Four GP9s have picked up a unit coal train from the CSX at Hampton and are taking it to the power plant at Canadys. The quartet of Geeps certainly sound healthy- to paraphrase what the crossing guard told me "they aren't much to look at, but they run great". The road's shop is located behind the train. I note where this shot has been nicked and placed on a web page under another person's photo credit.
